Opals hold a special place in my heart. When I graduated from college my grandmother gave  me an opal ring as a graduation gift. Many years later (more than I'd like to admit!) I still own that ring.

As we gaze into the center of opals they mesmorize us because they sparkle with many vibrant colors ranging from clear through white, gray, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta, rose, pink, olive, brown, and black. It's hard to imagine a time when glass wasn't a part of everyday life, but for centuries glassmaking techniques were a carefully guarded secret. Fathers passed the craft of glassmaking to their sons, but rarely to anyone else.

How Lampwork Beads are Made

Anything can be made with Swarovski crystals and I've got the pictures to prove it!

For those of you who are not aware, Swarovski is the brand name for a range of precisely-cut lead crystal and related luxury products produced by Swarovski AG of Wattens, Austria. Swarovski crystal is the finest crystal made in the world.

To create crystal glass that lets light refract in a rainbow spectrum, Swarovski coats some of its products with special metallic chemical coatings. Aurora Borealis, or "AB", is one of the most popular coatings, and gives the surface a rainbow appearance. I use crystals with the AB coating almost exclusively, as I find it gives an extra sparkle to my jewelry.

There are three basic earring styles - linear, chandelier and hoop. Each style can accentuate your features and downplay areas you wish to avoid.
